Aidan McCarthy is a seventeen year old bass player, attending Bishop O'Dowd High School in Oakland, California, where he has lived all his life. Initially taken by the rock music of artists such as Frank Zappa, the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull, etc, from a very early age Aidan has been completely enamored with music. In 3rd grade he picked up the guitar, and played that until halfway through middle school, when he became exposed to jazz music, prompting a switch from guitar to the acoustic bass, the upright bass, double bass, the bass of many names. Since taking classes at the California Jazz Conservatory and the Oaktown Jazz Workshop, Aidan has been a member of the SFJAZZ High School All Stars Big Band, the California Jazz Conservatory's Studio Band, Carnegie Hall's National Youth Orchestra Jazz Band, the Vail Jazz Workshop among other groups, and has toured nationally and internationally. Aidan has studied with John Clayton, Glenn Richman, Jeff Chambers, Ingrid Jensen, Carl Allen, and others. Aidan gigs and performs frequently throughout the Bay Area. Outside of music, Aidan loves going on bike rides, reading books, baking sourdough bread, skateboarding, hiking, and of course, listening to music!
